Description

Ambroxol is an active metabolite of bromhexine. Stimulates the activity of serous cells and Clark cells of the bronchial mucosa. The former secrete mainly the serous component, which thins the bronchial mucus and increases its volume, while the others secrete hydrolases that break down the mucopolysaccharide fibers of bronchial mucus and reduce its viscosity. The activity of the ciliated epithelium and the drainage of the bronchioles and bronchi increase. The drug stimulates the synthesis of surfactant. It also reduces the viscosity of the mucus in the nose and throat.
